Culture Shock, by Kifle Bantayehou

Winter 2008

Son came home crying today
Head down and in dismay;

He was teased so much, so unfair
His clothes, accent, even his hair;

Is that what he has to expect?
For being foreign, now different, what's next?

To them I say son be strong, this is a phase
With your experiences, many you will amaze;

I have faith in you both, no matter
whatHold your heads high, tolerate those minds which are shut.
